Hi, I’m Krista!
The Common Place has been a natural evolution for me. I have been practicing the artistry of hair for more than half my life. I have seen the inside of many salons (even founding and opening one of the Comox Valley’s first eco-salons), and I have worked with an endless array of products. From my experience I have learned how important it is to know what we are using on our bodies and in our hair. While also understanding the value in elevating the client experience.
When it comes to hair I specialize in low maintenance colours - think lived in blondes, or gently blended natural silver so you won’t be married to the 6 week retouch. I also love fun, funky, and easy to style cuts that will fit your life. Texture is key. I wear a lot of helmets & helmet head is no match for a great haircut.
One of the ways I care for my clients is striving to ensure ingredient integrity, brand transparency, and product performance. The Common Place store is the epitome of these values.
More time at home has allowed us to reflect on the things that surround us. The Common Place is here to help you create the home and hair you want to live in. Choose from our inspired, sustainable products and services, by folks who are getting paid a fair price to create them.
If you need me, I’ll be here, creating life proof hairstyles and working on making and gathering extraordinary products that will enrich your life and do better for our planet.
Hi, I'm John!
The Common Place Salon became my home for hairstyling in April of 2023. So much of what The Common Place offers resonates with me as a stylist and a person. I am so proud to work in a salon that puts the health of our planet and our customers as a top priority. I love the fact that we get to work in an intimate environment that allows me to focus on my client’s needs during their service. As a stylist, I care deeply about my clients' experience. I strive to ensure clients feel heard and that the process is comfortable and open.
My passion for art, woodworking and design have led me to have a diverse skill set as a stylist. I offer a range of services from highlights, colouring and cuts for everyone.
Being a proud member of the LGBTQ+2IA community, I am honored to work in a salon that ensures a safe space for all individuals.
Hi, I'm Paula!
I have recently relocated from the mainland to the beautiful Comox Valley and I am excited to be joining this lovely pair of humans at The Common Place Salon.
I have been pursuing my passion in the beauty industry for over 35 years, working in many salon settings over those years, two of which were in Vancouver where I had the privilege and honour to work/learn alongside some of Vancouver's best stylists.
When I became a mom in 2003 I started a successful mobile salon business by bringing personalized hair services to my clients while still prioritizing my family.
This eventually turned into my own salon “wee organic salon” in North Vancouver where I specialized in natural looking colours and structured haircuts that were easy for my clients to maintain.
I strive to always take special care and attention with every client, to listen to their ideas and respect their wishes to make sure I understand exactly what they are looking for in their appointment and to offer a relaxing, pleasant and professional salon experience.
I am always very honoured that people choose to put their trust in me and I love this industry not only for the limitless creativity it offers but for the relationships we get to have with people..
Another passion of mine is my art. I am a mixed media artist and love to be in my studio when not in the salon. My work is here: @paulahumenny or www.paulahumenny.ca
I am a nature enthusiast, animal lover and an avid trail runner amongst other outdoor activities and you may see me out there in the trails or on the beach near my home with my little Jack Russell Terrier Edwin. I look forward to meeting you and working with your hair.
